Back2School Day Clinic

The M.O.B. Athletics First Annual Back to School Clinic was a hug success!

This was the first official event completed organized and ran by M.O.B. Athletics. All events that we host are geared towards teaching and empowering the youth, through the use of basketball, to get them believing in themselves. Basketball is the tool used to get their attention, then I use my platform to speak encouraging words of wisdom gained through walking this journey myself.

My focus is to hold these kinds of events to be able to reach multiple children at once. A the back to school clinic, I was able to convey my mission to each of those young players in attendance, speaking on my experience as a player and now that I have come to share my experience, knowledge as wisdom with them to help them be their greatest selves.

At the clinic, I, along with my team members, took the players through skill development training, teaching basic fundamental skills for a solid foundation they can build from to enhance their individual skills. We did not only work on offense, but defense as well, teaching that basketball is not just about offense. Many players these days tend to watch the NBA, not knowing that that style of basketball is not realistic for where they want to be in order to make their Middle School or High School basketball team. It definitely is not the style of basketball played at the college level, and we let the players know that in order to obtain a college scholarship it is going to take more than be able to dribble and shoot.

During the clinic, we also had the pleasure of having former Professional player Alysha Harvin, who has also played overseas in countries such as Iceland, Spain, and France, as well as in the Washington Mystics WNBA Training camp. She has her own brand called "iMotiv8", which holds the same philosophy and beliefs as M.O.B. Athletics: "Believing in yourself first, then putting action behind that belief to reach your goals and dreams."

After the clinic, we provided the players with free M.O.B. bags filled with school supplies and gift cards from our local sponsors at the Chick-Fil-A in Davie, FL as well as Red Lobster in Plantation, FL. Also, thanks to Red Lobster and an additional sponsor, Chili's Restaurant in Plantation, we were able to do a raffle for gift card giveaways for the parents who attended as well.

We can say our first back to school event was a success, not only because of the completion of it, but because of the great feedback we received from players as well as parents. Most were already asking when would the next event be held. I look forward to continuing to create an environment where children can come learn basketball while also being inspired to be great in all that they do, and not just sports. This is only the beginning.
