What is the MOB Mentality

M.O.B. stand for Mind Over Body. The slogan is "All Is Mental." Everything we do starts with a thought in our minds. From opening our eyes when we wake up, to brushing our teeth and getting dressed each day. It all first began with a thought. That is why I say "All Is Mental." We cannot do anything without it first being a thought within our minds. The mind is your most powerful tool.

When it comes to being an athlete, the same applies. All of our actions began as a thought. Then when we act upon that thought, it materializes and manifests into our reality. Being an athlete, we have to be in control of these thoughts, because they are what create our success. But they also can create our failures. Even then I say, "I don't lose. I learn." It is all about perspective and how you see it.

Mind Over Body means just that. Being in control of your body by being in control of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, because you can only control you. When you are able to control these three things, then that is when you have entered what I call "The M.O.B. Mentality." Players with this mentality are not only physically tough, but mentally tough as well. They are able to overcome any adversity that comes their way, KNOWING they have what it takes to be successful.

I first stepped into the M.O.B. mentality when I was a college basketball player at Clayton State University (CSU). We had a coach that was tough on us, and he pushed us way past our physical limits. He would get onto us everyday in workouts and practice, knowing that we were capable of being great. But it wasn't enough for him to know it, we had to know it for ourselves. As I look back over my career, I realized that it was during my time at CSU where I developed the M.O.B. Mentality which contributed to my success in continuing my career overseas as a professional.

When I embarked on my professional career as an international player, my M.O.B. Mentality began to grow and enhance due to different physical conditions I had to adjust to within different environments amongst different cultures of people. In order to be as successful as I was, I had to put my mind over my body as I lived in harsh freezing climates in places like Romania and Estonia, to the hottest of places like Mexico. Adjusting mentally and physically to these areas was a must if I wanted to be successful. This was outside of the whole reason I was in this countries..to play basketball.

I had to focus on basketball, find my balance and adjust to being an everyday resident while living in these different areas. Basketball is the vehicle that allowed me to live a lifestyle not common to many, and it contributed to me growing and building a mindset that allowed me to be the great player I was, and continue to evolve into the great individual, woman, coach, teacher and business owner I am today.

I know that I am always in control of me and that is all I need to control. I tell my body what to do, not the other way around. When I was able to transform my mind to this new way of thinking, it lead to me leading teams to international championships, being awarded multiple MVP titles, leading league sin scoring and rebounding for back to back season, and so much more. It is the mindset that allowed our team at Clayton State to win the Division 2 National Title in 2011. The first national title won at our school, as well the the first national title won by any college in the state of Georgia. We were inducted into the Clayton State Hall of Fame in February 2022, and awarded the key to the City of Morrow, Georgia by the Mayor. We all held the M.O.B. Mentality within use, from coach to player. Now this mentality continues to lead me today as I work to build my business and regrow the basketball culture for girls within the South Florida area.

I know that my mind can be my biggest asset or my greatest enemy. Is all about what I choose. I tell my players, "It's all on you, so what you gonna do?" Nobody can do it for you. You have to have it in your mind that I believe in me, and I will do the things necessary to make my success happen for me. It's you. It's always been you. I knew I was capable of being a great player. When I made up in my mind that I was going to do whatever it takes, it was then I was able to put my mind over my body, over circumstances, over my situation, over the doubts, the fears, the naysayers, and anything else that tried to come in between me and my dreams. I knew then that I had what it took and I know I have what it takes to help other players see the greatness that lives within them as well.
